Odette: Little Blessed Bug

As Dutch DJ and producer, Odette, releases her latest EP, Little Blessed Bug, The Waveform Transmitter takes a look at this promising young artist’s musical wares.

Odette has been a firm favourite amongst those of us at Waveform Transmitter HQ since we first heard her ‘Divine Line’ EP just under a year ago. Since then, she has displayed her prowess in the recording studio with a flurry of awesome releases, and her latest EP further bolsters her position as one of our artists to look out for in 2017.

‘Little Blessed Bug’ continues the theme that has run throughout the series of releases we’ve enjoyed from the Dutch artist; that being a trippy, spacial, minimal spin on house and techno that stands as well on its own as a single entity as it would do when worked into a set. The release sees her join ranks with the likes of Marko Nastic, so she’s in good company.

The EP, released on Tip Tap Records, opens with ‘Diagrams’, which is a stripped-back techno jam with regular Odette-isms in there – little hooks that make you suddenly sit up and listen intently.

Title track ‘Little Blessed Bug’ continues the minimal vibe, with some wonderfully-placed vocal snippets that punctuate the perfectly programmed percussion throughout the trip.

‘Taqueria’ certainly has elements that are reminiscent of Booka Shade, in particular, their track ‘Regenerate’. It is just something about the little quirks in the track that make it endlessly entertaining.

The final track on the EP, ‘Tjukurpa’, is a more chunky affair than the three tracks that go before it. With some more trademark vocal chatter adding layers to the track, as the drum patterns mesmerise the listener and the synth stabs draw the listener further in, we’re going to plump for this as our favourite on ‘Little Blessed Bug’.

Keep an eye out for Odette. She’s always releasing new tracks via her SoundCloud page, and 2017 looks set to be her year. The ‘Little Blessed Bug’ EP is available to buy now from Beatport. Well, what are you waiting for? Go and buy it!
