Techno trio, Möd3rn, are set to release their first album as a collective, Trois. The Waveform Transmitter’s Ste Knight enjoys.
You’ll remember a while back we previewed Skryptöm Records‘ 10-year anniversary compilation album, 10 Years. Now, three of the talents involved in the label, Electric Rescue (label manager at Skryptöm), Maxime Dangles, and Roman Poncet (aka Traumer), are set to release their debut album as a trio, and it is sounding pretty damn sharp.
Trois, is the work of the three producers, who have been collaboratively recording as Möd3rn since their first release back in November 2013, an 3-track EP titled 10/13. Up to now, track titles have reflected the order in which they’ve appeared on the Möd3rn Records sub-label; so MO1, MO2 and so forth. The album sees them ditch the cryptic titles and put into place something more definitive.
Trois sees the glorious triumvirate combine their multiplicitous talents to bring us an album of premium standards, the 12 tracks therein bring together a range of techno stylings.
From the experimental motor-funk machinations of first track Galenthall, which imagines a glitching, futuristic landscape, gigantic sentinel robots striding across the sonic terrain, to the straight-up Franco-techno that is Le Tunnel De l’A7, the album is an exercise in showcasing the skills of the three producers in the studio.
We are treated to a trip across the entire techno map, starting in France, heading to Berlin, nipping over for a quick stop in Birmingham thanks to Tressed Part One and Tressed Part Two, then hopping the pond to Detroit. Trois manages to bring various styles of techno together while maintaining the overall coherence of the album.
Trois is due for general release in May, but in the meantime, take a listen to the wonderful Le Tunnel De l’A7, below. Look out for our Waveform Mix Series, next week, which features none other than Electric Rescue himself with a lesson in how to techno, Paris-style.
