On the Radar: Kwake Bass – Dem1ns #1

London percussion impressario, Kwake Bass, revealed his latest outing, Dem1ns #1 recently. The Waveform Transmitter’s Chris Walker takes a listen to the dexterous producer’s single.

Dem1ns #1 is the latest electronic release by the eminent London drummer known as Kwake Bass. Kwake’s style impresses, as Dem1ns #1 is an absolute banger! It has the kind of melody that just beams you up to some ethereal state of consciousness as you’re feeling the waves and the rushes of love at any club night. Even for the most lost of souls, I can pretty much guarantee that this EP would provide a sense of rescue.

Centering around a deep, dark, ethereal house sound (The Lean House Step), with elements of chug (Paris), 80s synthwave (Acid Test), and an idm-ish, ambient take on dubstep (Swali Planet Vision), Kwake smothers listener in swathes of atmospheric sound, be that through his use of pads or the cavernous bassline he employs.

This is his inaugural shot at flying solo. Before he made this move to go it alone, Kwake Bass was involved with such artists as Shabake Hutchings, who won a MOBO Award in 2013 for Jazz Band of the Year with his band Sons of Kemet. His career has also seen involvement with Jonzi D, the brains behind the Breakin’ Convention, one of the most prominent of British hip-hop dance festivals.

In addition to this range of honours, Kwake Bass has also been involved in a wide-ranging variety of music projects alongside Joey Bada$$, DOOM, Kate Tempest, Mica Levi, and Jehst.

Kwake Bass will be promoting this single on Wednesday, December 13th, at the Ghost Notes venue in Peckham. This event, titled Kwake Bass Presents Dem1ns #1 with Curl is gaining a burgeoning popularity down the ‘Old Smoke’, with more and more people confirming their attendance via social media platforms. It is more than fair to say that his venture into the world of all that is electronic certainly is not a step in the wrong direction. This event, to showcase Dem1ns #1, will not disappoint!

I have to conclude by saying, Kwake Bass has been in the game long enough and his latest single, Dem1ns #1 is something to be enjoyed, and I, The Waveform Transmitter’s Chris Walker, would like to wish him all the best as a producer and solo artist. Check out Dem1ns #1, below.
