Carl Cox has taken the bull by the horns and launched a brand new label, Awesome Soundwave, marking the launch with label partner Christopher Coe’s debut album. The Waveform Transmitter‘s Dave Coates has the details.

Techno legend, Carl Cox, has let slip that he is to launch a brand new label, Awesome Soundwave, stylised as ASW. ASW represents an innovation with a unique concept; a label that concentrates and is geared towards live electronic acts. With hardware performances gaining rapid popularity, the way in which music is both delivered and consumed is changing fast. It is encouraging to see the industry responding to these shifts by freeing artists from the restrictions imposed by DJing alone.

ASW‘s ethos is to bring together a whole range of amazing producers and would-be live acts from across the entire electronic music spectrum, and showcase them as the pioneers of the direction in which the music can be taken in the near future. The imprint is founded alongside Christopher Coe, AKA Digital Primate, who is the first artist to release on ASW, with an eight track album inspired by the mountainous landscapes from the now-Melbourne-based artist’s home on the west coast of Ireland.

Carl and Christopher’s unique idea was to create a label were artists, who make and perform their music live, have a solid platform that nurtures their creativity without any limitations or boundaries. This is a brilliant concept for a label and who knows what live acts will emerge from it. Could we see the next Chemical Brothers or Underworld for a new generation of clubbers?

Christopher Coe‘s first album, ‘MNTNS of SLNC’ is scheduled for release on March 2nd, followed by two remix EP’s, also in the pipeline. Expect reviews of all future ASW releases, from our camp. You can check out Headland’ from the album, below.
