Mix: Waveform 030 – Silicone Soul

To celebrate the 30th mix in our ever expanding series, we introduce the legendary Silicone Soul, who are here with a exclusive, one hour mix, featuring some impeccably selected house cuts. The Waveform Transmitter’s Ste Knight presents.

Silicone Soul are undoubtedly one of the most influential house acts to have come from north of the Scottish border. 20 years in the game has seen them rack up a slew of releases, including five studio albums for the almighty electronic music imprint, Soma Quality Recordings. Not only that, but they also run Darkroom Dubs, a label dealing in a truly uncompromising house sound that stands at the pinnacle of the underground scene. If there is one thing we can all be sure of, it is that Craig Morrison and Graeme Reedie can translate the ethos of house into any sonic form, be that through their stellar productions, which include the heavily discofied Right On, Right On, complete with its sweeping strings and tropical percussion, or, more recently, the fourth edition of their Darkroom Dubs compilation series, complete with a full album mix, curated by the boys themselves.

March 14th saw the label unleashing the wild beast that is Dino Lenny‘s terrifying Chained to a Ladder; a fiercely dark electronic workout, complete with an iniquitous, grinding synth that would make the unholiest of unholies bow their heads in respect. Tortured vocals complete the production, instilling a further sense of foreboding.

As if the original wasn’t intimidating enough, Silicone Soul transcend the crepuscular nature of the original, and plunge us into the dead of night, on their Silicone Soul’s Self Destruction Blues rerub. This is the time when agonized spirits wander the astral plane and boy are Soul channelling them. Slowing down the original, we are engulfed in nightmarish wails from the ether, as the departed make good their efforts to claw back into our realm.

Check out what Silicone Soul had on offer in their munitions cache, when they delivered a rocket-load of Secret Weapons, in our playlist series.

Not ones to confine themselves to the recording dungeon, Silicone Soul  remain firm favourites in front of a crowd. Recently pushing their live act has illustrated their dexterity under both a live and a DJ remit. Staying ahead of the curve has always been something the pair have striven towards, and it shows. Their diversity and maturity of sound is testament to their achievements and their hard work, honing their craft, along the way.

It is with great pleasure that we present Silicone Soul‘s Waveform Mix, the 30th in our series. Mixed by Craig, the mix will speak to you in the ways a house mix should, while toying with the darker side of emotion. No track list this time, let the music do the talking.
