Sunday Service Mix 004 – Estroe

Our fourth Sunday Service mix is a lesson in dark, low-slung, pulsing, electronic music from iconic Dutch producer and DJ, Estroe. The Waveform Transmitter’s Ste Knight introduces.

Estroe is a name that has, over the past twenty-or-so years, permeated across the underground electronic music scene in an almost viral fashion, given her prolific touring regime and her residencies and appearances in some of the globes most revered venues. You don’t perform at the likes of BerghainWatergate, Rex Club, or Melkweg and manage to simultaneously slip under everyone’s radar. Nor do DJs and producers like Dave ClarkeSteffi, or Anthony Rothercollaborate with you if you don’t stand out from your peers.

Fortunately for us, Estroe has been setting herself worlds apart from those around her, her brand of electronic music is diverse, covering the spectrum between techno and electro, taking into account the many varied forms of the sound that lie in between the two poles. Estroe knows how to evolve a set, taking in ethereal, warm sound, that develops into a more pulsating groove as the mix progresses, which is wholly evident from her Sunday Service mix, which we present today.

DJing isn’t the only contribution Estroe makes to the scene, however. Not only does she produce her own tracks (many of which you can listen to via her SoundCloud page), but she is also crucial to the production and release of music by budding or emerging producers. Not only does this take the form of releases on her Rosedale Records imprint, but also her Estroe Advice agency, which guides young producers and DJs in terms of the technical and managerial aspects of the industry.

Estroe‘s Sunday Service mix covers a wide range of tracks, from Petrichor‘s sublime, Koh-Rah, to Nils Frahm‘s All Melody, which closes the set out. Take a listen to the mix up at the top of the page. The track list is below. Enjoy this dubby set from this week’s guest pastor!
