The mighty 909 return to Liverpool and bring with them one of the most exciting headliners the city has seen for quite some time. The Wizard Jeff Mills will be gracing the decks and The Waveform Transmitter‘s Ste Knight has the details.
303‘s little sister, 909, will be making its return to Liverpool in October, and will be bringing with it one of Detroit techno’s most awe-inspiring acts. Saturday October 5th sees Jeff Mills – AKA The Wizard – heading to Invisible Wind Factory for a day and night event that will undoubtedly be sending tidal waves rolling down the Mersey river.
Literally everyone knows who Jeff Mills is, and you especially should get the Waveform Transmitter reference if you read our website. Mills is one of those Detroit techno legends who should be on the bucket list of any discerning electronic music aficionado. Anyone who has seen him live, or at the very least his Exhibitionist recording, will totally understand that this is one that can’t be missed.
Taking place between 2 pm on Saturday October 5th and 4 am on October 6th, the party will follow the day-night vibe that has been a winning formula for the 303/909 brand for so long now. The daytime session, which includes Mills‘ 3-hour set, will also feature several local acts, some from down the road, and obviously the 909 rezzies.
Gemma Furbank, who we last caught at 909‘s summer shindig supporting Dave Clarke last year (we actually preferred her set, but don’t tell The Baron that, whatever you do) will be warming up for Mills, and her brand of no-nonsense techno should get everyone whipped up into a frenzy without a doubt.
Gemma will be joined on warm-up duty by local artiste, ASOK, who’s set at last years Baltic Weekender was a genuine schooling in the electro sound. However, we know from prior experience that his Detroit skills are also of a premium standard so things are really shaping up nicely.
KUSP will be in full effect, with their own brand of deep techno providing an excellent soundtrack before the main event. Their set at 909‘s summer party was a killer warm up and had people dancing from the off – no mean feat at 2 pm in the afternoon, so we look forward to their set.
Also on the line-up are local legends Mr Paul and Moritz, who regularly collaborate as the brilliant Maschinenfunk. These two really know their onions and they’re both really diverse DJs so will no doubt be bringing their a-game to 909. The roster is completed by 303 rezzies Samuel Lamont and Stuart Hodson, and our good friend Tom Page. Fucking hell!
AS IF that wasn’t enough, the night-time sees 303 favourite Andrew Weatherall hitting the decks for an all-night set. His last one in the Williamson Tunnels was an absolute beast, so we are looking forward to big things from The Guv’nor.
