Waveform 048: STRISC.

As STRISC. readies himself for the release of his collaborative EP with Tim Xavier, he drops in with the 48th contribution to our main mix series, with one-and-a-half hours of relentless industrial techno. The Waveform Transmitter’s Ste Knight presents.

Our latest Waveform Mix sees none other than STRISCTRX head honcho, STRISC. heading to Waveform HQ with ninety minutes of music that illustrates his love for the harder edge of the techno sound.  His contribution to the series comes ahead of Friday’s release on his own label, and the mix reflects the ethos of his own sound – unwavering, sinister techno.

His forthcoming EP sees STRISC. teaming up with one of techno’s heavyweights – Tim Xavier – on production duties, delivering a double-header of uncompromising industrial techno that will rock the foundations of any warehouse or club space. Discerning dark techno lovers are going to be all over this release, titled Collab_001 EP which drops on June 14th.

The first track, named (or coded?) as STRSC_TX_001.1, opens up with a pulverising kick drum which hammer-smashes the bottom end into oblivion. If you like your techno deep, dirty, and driving, then this track is for your delectation.

In line with industrial techno tropes, the clangs and clatters of machinery are never far from the eardrum. Sheets of metal smash into each other, sparks flying, as the musical elements of the track take hold. Lump hammers bear down on hot iron while alarm sirens instill a sense of panic, increasing the urgency of the track as it rolls forward.

Track two, STRSC_TX_001.2, sets things in motion with a treated kick that almost distorts under it’s own weight. This ushers in a tense, oscillating synth that rises in potency as we head toward the minute mark, before a sonic ‘whoosh’ bring the percussion’s top-end into play.

The exigency of track one is not lost on the  flip, as more warning sounds enter the mix, soon to be washed over by hissing cymbals. The mildly arpeggiating synth that drops in at the second break is enough to send any listener into a state of spasmodic possession as the mesmerising wails clatter around the unrelenting drum programming.

This is a release which is filled with high-octane N-R-G, primed for a warehouse crowd and perfect for playing out on a biiiiiiig rig. We look forward to the next release from STRISC. and to seeing who the producer decides to collaborate with next time. You can grab your copy here.

In the meantime, take a listen to STRISC.‘s contribution to our Waveform mix series, which was recorded in the iconic Tresor nightclub. If you want to check out our other mixes, head to the archive, here. No tracklist this time around, just enjoy the dark, menacing shadows instead…
