New Issues News From the Willamette University College of Law
The Willamette University College of Law recently announced six new law professors. These individuals bring expertise and experience to the college. Professors Bertrall Ross, Joel Samuels, David Friedman, and Dustin Buehler join Professors Symeon Symeonides and Jaclyn Cherry, and Assistant Professors Etienne Toussaint and Madalyn Wasilczuk.
Professor Bertrall Ross, who is also a fellow of the Center for Constitutional Rights, recently published a paper analyzing the risk of political violence and voter data. In addition, his work has inspired a pro-democracy project. His paper also examines how democratic inequality affects electoral outcomes.
Professor Joel Samuels is the director of the Rule of Law Collaborative, which is supporting post-conflict and fragile countries. He also serves as the clinical instructor at the university. Additionally, he is a member of the Governor’s Legal Staff.
A former federal jurist, Abby DeBorde is the first full-time licensed professional counselor on the law school’s staff. Her stance on Rule of Law over politics, coupled with her previous work as a government attorney, will help students navigate the legal system.
Professor Joel Samuels is a renowned scholar in the field of comparative conflicts law. His work has been published in journals such as the UCLA Law Review and Oxford University Press. Previously, he directed the Rule of Law Clinic at the School of Law. He is the author of seven books.
Professor Joel H. Samuels has been appointed interim vice provost for interdisciplinary studies. He has been teaching at the School of Law since 2007. During his tenure, he has helped lead several initiatives, including the Adopt a Teacher program. This summer, he will also teach the Lawyers & Leadership Seminar, which prepares graduates for leadership roles in the legal profession.
Professor Joel Samuels has also been named director of the new Center for Empirical Studies in Law. The center, which is located at the School of Law, will train the next generation of lawyers using empirical techniques. It will be housed in a dedicated space at the law school and will feature the work of faculty members.
Professor Joel Samuels is currently working on a research project that explores how economic analysis can be applied to public law. He is also a member of the School of Law’s Criminal Justice Lab. Additional research projects include studying the impact of domestic violence on children and developing new measures to better evaluate the effectiveness of bar exams.
The Law School Bound program is a program that allows a small group of students to take advantage of the resources and opportunities offered by the School of Law, and the University of Alaska Anchorage. This program will enable more Alaskans to receive legal education. As a result, the Law School is increasing its ability to support students who are low-income.
Students will be able to learn more about the role of the attorney in this emerging area of legal practice. In addition, students will be able to participate in the Student-Run Business Enterprise Center.
