The Daily News
Daily news is news that happens in a day. It can include political, social or business stories. It can also be sports or entertainment news. It can be local or international.
The New York Daily News is a tabloid newspaper in the United States. It was founded in 1919 and was once the newspaper with the largest circulation in the country. Its founder, Joseph Medill Patterson, wanted to establish a paper that would appeal to the masses and was different from the more serious, more academic New York Times. The Daily News attracted readers with sensational coverage of crime and scandal, lurid photographs and cartoons, and celebrity gossip.
In the late 20th century, the paper was still one of America’s top-selling newspapers, though its circulation had declined dramatically from its high point in the mid-20th century. The paper was owned by New York News, Inc., a subsidiary of the Tribune Company, with publisher Mortimer Zuckerman serving as its chairman and copublisher. The Daily News competed with its even more sensational rival, the New York Post, and at the time of its sale to Tronc in 2019, was one of only two major American newspapers still owned by a large corporate parent.
