Entertaiment

entertaiment

A clown at a child’s birthday party, a stadium rock concert, your friends fighting over the last potato chip—all are forms of entertainment. Derived from the Old French entretenir, or “hold together,” this word has evolved to mean amusement, distraction, and enjoyment. The elation and joy that entertainment provides can also act as a form of catharsis, or emotional cleansing. Some prefer more thought-provoking entertainment, such as documentaries or puzzle games. For others, nothing beats a good laugh or the adrenaline rush of a sports game. The broad range of entertaiment options serves people from all walks of life and every possible interest, mood, and emotion.
