Synth-pop extraordinaire, Gary Numan, is lined up to play Liverpool in July. Here’s The Waveform Transmitter’s Ste Knight has the details.

If anyone mentions synth-pop, it is pretty difficult to imagine it without one of its most influential figures, Gary Numan, springing to mind. At least, that is what happened here at Waveform HQ when we received news of his impending Liverpool date…

Numan‘s illustrious career has spanned four decades and has seen him involved in a number of projects, from his beginnings as lead singer of pivotal new-wave band, Tubeway Army, through to his solo career (which is undoubtedly most easily recognised by his production of Cars and Are ‘Friends’ Electric?, amongst others),

It is fair to say that Gary is by far one of UK electronic music’s most important figureheads. He has an enviable back-catalogue of releases under his belt and has been an inspiration to countless other acts that came after him; industrial rock act NIN have cited him as a catalyst to many of their tracks.

He has worked in collaboration with numerous prestigious artists and his tracks have been sampled on many popular tracks, such as Basement Jaxx’ Where’s Your Head At? and Koochy by Armand Van Helden. 2017 will see Numan releasing his latest album, Savage.

July 27th will see Numan performing at Liverpool’s 50 Summers of Love series of events. His appearance is set to take place at the National Exhibition Centre. Support comes from original Ultravox frontman and avant-garde electronic hero John Foxx with his exciting current project John Foxx and The Maths.

Tickets are available from The Exhibition Centre website, the Echo Arena website, Seetickets and Ticketmaster, from Friday March 3rd. They are priced at £37.50 for a seated ticket and £30.00 for a standing ticket (plus booking fee). No doubt the internet will break the second these go on sale so be quick!
