On the Radar: Jeroen Search – Continuum EP

Jeroen Search arrives on ODD EVEN for his latest outing, Continuum. The Waveform Transmitter’s Paul McGuinness takes a listen to the techno veteran’s six-tracker.

Andre Kronert‘s ODD EVEN imprint welcomes one of the most authentic techno producers and veterans on the scene. Known for his genre-defining, inimitable sound and energetic performances, Jeroen Search is today where he’s always been, at the very edge of contemporary techno…

The EP starts off with the electronic, almost B-movie-like Explain Variation 2 which could almost feature on epic programming like Stranger Things, with its eerie soundtrack-like sounds and whispers.

Without Abrupt Changes has a distinct Joey Beltram feel to it, then expanding into more Detroit techno waters. Onto Quantitve Transiations and its much darker nature of mood-filled tech stabs, tectonic grooves which all float on top of a seedy underbelly of a low slung bass and heavy rhythmical patterns.

Contiuum travels to a completely different planet musically bringing with it visions of Tresor and smoked filled techno clubs – you can almost imagine a constant strobe to accompany this Axis repetitive hypnotic groover.

Listen to Explain Variation 1 and we’ve almost come full circle with its pulsing drone, like sublime messages rising and falling to a tech crescendo. Finally Continous or Discrete is a funky little number that keeps your attention to its synthesis and its (exactly as it says) continuously twisting movements.

Continuum EP by Jeroen Search is available from ODD EVEN on August 28th.
